Our Vice-President Leticia Beleta participated today in the meeting on "Designation, development and access to orphan drugs" organised by the Centre for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) of the University of Santiago de Compostela, the Centre for Biomedical Research Network on Rare Diseases (CIBERER), the Catalan Institute of Health and the Platform for Minority Diseases (Plataforma de Malalties Minoritàries).
In the panel "From the designation to the patient" Leticia focused her intervention on "The interest of the industry in orphan drugs". At the end of her presentation, she took part in a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Dr. Mª Luz Couce, director of the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), in which the following also took part: Dr. Yoana Nuevo, Innovation Office of the AEMPS, Dr. Mabel Loza, CiMUS Research Centre of the University of Santiago de Compostela, C of the Kaertor Foundation, and Dr. Juan Luque, Manager of the CIBERER Scientific Activity.
The other round tables that completed the day dealt with the process of designation of orphan drugs and the experiences in this process, where attendees were able to listen to leading experts in the field of orphan drugs, such as Dr. Susana Navarro, Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Fundación Jiménez Díaz (IIS-FJD) and CIBERER, Dr. Susana Navarro, Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Fundación Jiménez Díaz (IIS-FJD) and CIBERER, Dr. Miguel López de Heredia, CIBERER Scientific Activity Manager or Dr. Josep Torrent, professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) and President of the CIBERER External Scientific Advisory Committee.
