The Importance of Women's Leadership in Health Governance

Beatriz Perales, president of the Spanish Association of Orphan and Ultra-Orphan Drug Laboratories (AELMHU), participated on Wednesday in the event “Health Governance and Public-Private Partnerships: The Value of Women’s Leadership, organized by CESIF, a business school specializing in the biopharmaceutical industry.

The event, held as part of “Women’s Month,” brought together institutional representatives and leaders from the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors to discussthe role of women’s leadership in strategic decision-makingand the evolution of the healthcare governance model.

The opening remarks were delivered byEva Serrano, vice president of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce. She was followed by the president of AELMHU, who provided the keynote address for the event.

“Women’s leadership is not just a matter of equality, but an opportunity to improve the quality of healthcare decisions and strengthen the capabilities of our healthcare system, said Beatriz Perales.

In her remarks, she highlighted three key ideas. The first focused on women’s leadership as a driver of value: “If we want a healthcare system that is more innovative, more sustainable, and better prepared for the future, we cannot afford to do without the talent that women bring to the table.”

He also emphasized the importance of diversity and collaboration, along with leadership styles that are “capable of building trust.” “As well as building bridges between organizations and fostering opportunities for public-private collaboration to address the major challenges facing the National Health System (SNS).”

Finally, she highlighted the importance of female talent and the opportunity to train the leaders of the future: “It is essential to foster environments that support professional development, highlight female role models, and position diversity as a strategic asset for organizations.”

Following Beatriz Perales’s opening remarks, the event continued with a roundtable discussion moderated by Jorge Vázquez, partner and director of the Healthcare Practice at VINCES and national representative for Industry on the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists. Participants included Pilar Jimeno, director general of Health Inspection and Planning for the Community of Madrid; Elena Casaus, Secretary General of the Spanish Association of Generic Medicines (AESEG); Marta Villanueva, Director General of the IDIS Foundation; Raquel Martínez, Secretary General of the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists and Vice President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation; and Nuria González, Director of the Healthcare Innovative Solution Unit at Novartis. The event concluded with remarks byRaquel Yotti, PERTE Commissioner for Cutting-Edge Health, and closing remarks by Clara Campos, CEO of CESIF.
