The president of the Spanish Association of Orphan and Ultra Orphan Drug Laboratories(AELMHU), Beatriz Perales, participated this Friday in the inauguration of the Official Master's Degree in Drug Discovery at the European University of Madrid (UEM).
In her speech during the event, held at the UEM Campus in Villaviciosa de Odón (Madrid), our president explained the particularities of rare diseases and their treatments, and detailed the work carried out by the association to contribute with its actions to improve the health and quality of life of people affected by these minority pathologies. These actions are focused on 4 areas: collaboration, training, information and visibility of the pathologies and their research.
This master's degree, which aims to train professionals in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biomedical industries, will offer students the opportunity to complete a TFM on a rare or ultra-rare disease, in which they will have to make a proposal for the development of a drug, taking into account all its phases, from molecular research to its commercialization.
At the inauguration, Beatriz Perales was accompanied by Juan Carrión, President of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases(FEDER); Ana María Fernández Olleros, Vice-Dean of Pharmacy and Nutrition at the UEM; Elena Pérez Izquierdo, Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Director of the Master's Degree; and our Executive Director, Marian Corral, as well as collaborators and teachers of the course.
The collaboration of AELMHU in this Master's Degree has taken place within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed with the UEM to carry out joint training, teaching, counseling and research activities, which aims to join efforts between academia and the pharmaceutical sector, always for the benefit of patients.
