Laying of the foundation stone of the Únicas Building

Within the framework of this year's World Day for Rare Diseases, our director, Marian Corral, visited the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona to attend the event of the laying of the first stone of the Únicas Building.

This project will consist of specific facilities for the treatment of rare diseases, dedicated to the care and research of these pathologies, concentrating all the care and research areas for the diagnosis and treatment of rare pathologies of genetic and immunological origin and will start its activity at the end of 2025.

Este proyecto formará parte de las nuevas estructuras del proyecto urbanístico “Porta Barcelona”, que prevé la creación de un campus biomédico en la zona para acelerar la implantación de tecnologías emergentes en el campo de la salud.

The SJD Únicas building will also be one of the nodes of the Únicas network, a network of 30 hospitals throughout Spain that the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER) have promoted to ensure that children with rare diseases have access to the best treatment, regardless of where they live.

The ceremony of laying the first stone was attended by different organizations and institutions such as the mayoress of Esplugues de Llobregat, Pilar Díaz, the Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Manel Balcells, the managing director of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Dr. Manel del Castillo, and the president of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (Feder), Juan Carrión.
