AELMHU rewards research, clinical trajectory and dissemination of rare diseases and/or orphan drugs

Dr. Luisa María Botella, from the Spanish National Research Council, received the AELMHU Award for the Best Research Career in Orphan Diseases and Medicines for her work in the search for effective treatments against the evolution of von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) and telangiectatic haemorrhage. Likewise, Dr. Judith Silvia Armstrong and Dr. Mercè Pineda, from the Hospital San Joan de Déu in Barcelona, were awarded the AELMHU Prize for the Best Clinical Career in Rare Diseases for their contribution to the diagnosis of Rett syndrome; while the author of the website fidemiron.com website, president of ADIBI and vice-president of FEDER, Ms Fide Mirón, was recognised with the AELMHU Award for Best Work in the Dissemination of Knowledge on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs, for her fight for social and health change for people with disabilities and people affected by rare diseases in Spain. The 1st AELMHU Awards ceremony was held at the Royal National Academy of Medicine in Madrid, with the attendance of Ms Belén Crespo, Director of the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, and Ms Mª José Calvo, Deputy Director General of Pharmacy and Health Products of the Community of Madrid.
